You're Focused on the Wrong Thing

The One True Focus

Dear Younger Me,

It’s the things that are never seen that you need to fall in love with. At the end of the day, the glorious wins, the gold medals, the shiny objects, the fame, the fortune, and the glory will all fall short. You need to change your gaze. Your focus. If it is material things that you crave, please know you will never be satisfied.

True satisfaction must come from the small day-to-day moments. The extra five minutes to write a thank-you card. The extra half hour calling that friend.

It must come from the beat of sweat hitting the mat of the gym day in and day out. It must be on the fascination with every letter of every word that you write to try to build that audience.

Most importantly, it is about those quiet moments. Those moments when the sun is just starting to peek over the tree. The birds starting to whistle and the squirrels starting to climb down from the tree. It’s in those moments where you wake up to the revelation of the Word. Not just any word, but something greater than any teaching you’ve ever experienced or any word that you’ve ever written. The paper inside the good book, inside the Bible, inside the scripture is what you must ultimately focus on.

What you're called for is beyond just building any business, or influencing any audience, or growing any muscle. What it's really about is how you can enter those spaces as the son of the one true God.

Keep the faith, keep on going.

Best,

Older you
