Just Start

Dear Younger Me,

It’s about time you hear from me: your older self. I am just like you, but have traveled just a little further down your road. I’ve turned at the crossing you have not yet seen. Crossed the chasm you have not yet arrived. Realized the hardships you have not yet understood. Met friends that will soon bring you joy. Found the mentors you have not yet gained wisdom from.

I am here to write to you from the path already traveled. To advice on when to run and when to rest. When to shake hands and when to turn around. I’m here to advise that where I found hurt you can find help. Where I found hardship, you can find success. Where I lost, you can win.

So why now? What took so long? Well, younger me, hear this lesson: just start.

It really is that simple. The business idea you have. The romance you have interest in. The conversation you need to have. Just start. What I have found on our path is that the timing is never perfect. The week where busyness seems to halt is the week where sickness comes. The evening you want to start reading a new book is the night your old friend calls to catch up. As you walk down your path know that the times that seem most convenient are the ones of greatest inconvenience. On the same coin, the times that may seem inconvenient may be the ones of greatest convenience. Younger self no matter the convenience, just start. This is your sign. Right here, right now. Stop reading this letter and go start up that idea you’ve always had.

Just start, because I assure you, it is more than worth it.
